Sewing Machines for Underprivileged Women
Our Challenge
In Belagavi, most families rely primarily on farming and daily wage labor for their livelihood. Due to limited literacy and lack of access to skill development opportunities, many individuals—especially women—are unable to engage in sustainable income-generating activities. Social barriers and financial constraints further prevent them from pursuing vocational training. As a result, many women depend on irregular, low-paying labor that barely meets basic needs, often leading to poor nutrition and adverse effects on their overall health and well-being.
Mahesh Foundation’s Livelihood and Training Center identifies women from underprivileged backgrounds and empowers them through skill-based training in bag stitching. The stitched bags are marketed to generate income, helping the women gain financial independence and confidence. At the center, women learn to create a variety of bags, enhancing both their creativity and employability.
With the generous support of Volkswagen Group Digital Solutions (India) Private Limited, the Foundation has received 25 sewing machines, enabling us to provide better-equipped facilities and expand livelihood opportunities for many more women striving for a sustainable future. Volkswagen Group Digital Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd joined hands with Mahesh Foundation in 2025 Volkswagen Group Digital Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd supported Mahesh Foundation with 25 Sewing Machines for underprivileged women.
